    Custom Print Production Artist Supervisor

     

    This position reports directly to the General Manager of Custom Products and will be based out of the Paper Source Distribution Facility (7801 Industrial Drive, Forest Park, IL 60130). It will occasionally require travel to our Headquarters Office (125 S. Clark, Chicago, IL 60603) and vendor facilities.

     

    Position Summary

    The Custom Print Production Artist Supervisor is a dynamic leadership role that will have a dual focus on delivering for current customers and improving processes within the department. This individual should be a strategic-thinker with technical know-how that is excited & energized by problem-solving, as the specific tasks will evolve with the needs of the business. He or she will oversee ~6 full time Typesetting & Pre-Press Team members, serving as a primary liaison with the Paper Source Design & Merchandising Teams to execute on product vision. Guiding principles will include driving to exceed the customer’s expectations with product quality and timing, building trust with the customer, and preparing the department to scale for growth.

     

    Essential Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities

     

    Management & Communication

    • Manages daily activities of the production artist teams, specifically Typesetting & Pre-Press, accountable for on-time completion of preparing proofs and print files, including communication with both customers and production network
    • Leads production artist teams from hiring, onboarding, and training to growing the team’s technical capabilities
    • Accountable for execution of design concepts set forth by the Design & Merchandising teams throughout the custom print lifecycle, partnering closely with in-house and vendor print production teams
    • Champions new product roll-outs within the team by mapping out new workflows and promoting adherence across various stakeholder groups

     

    Product Development

    • Manages documentation to ensure consistency across production network, from design files to fonts to colors
    • Collaborates with merchant, design, and production network to translate concepts to commercial products, including partnering on sourcing, costing, and production
    • Leads the process of product prototype testing to ensure alignment with merchandising and product brief specifications, understanding the bill of materials and suggesting opportunities to minimize costs

     

    Process Improvement

    • Becomes an expert on Paper Source’s end to end Custom Print products and process, driving for consistency and identifying opportunities to streamline processes and improve product timing and quality
    • Develops an understanding of technology challenges and partners with HQ and distribution center teams to roadmap improvements over time
    • Collaborates cross-functionally to identify root causes and implement initiatives with our headquarters, customer service, internal production, and external production teams.
    • Work products could include SOPs, vendor and tool RFPs and cost-benefit analysis, technical specifications, color testing and product inspection, file re-organization, labor forecasting, vendor contract changes, field communications, and internal training initiatives

    Requirements

    • 2-5 years of experience managing technical or production teams
    • Retail or wholesale product development experience and/or print production and pre-press knowledge preferred
    • Proficient in MS Office
    • Adobe Creative Suite proficiency preferred
